Northern Nigerian music star Morell has once again made Arewa proud as he headlines the International Hausa Festival in Morocco. The event celebrates the richness of Hausa culture and its global influence, bringing together legendary artists from across Africa and beyond.
Among the top headliners were Hassan Hakmoun, a Moroccan Gnawa music master known for fusing traditional North African rhythms with jazz and spiritual trance music; Will Calhoun, a Grammy-winning American drummer from the iconic band Living Colour; and Khalifa Mennani, one of Morocco’s finest performers and a member of the popular group Fnaïre.
Morell, representing Nigeria, stood out as a pioneering voice in Northern Nigerian music and the creator of Afrokalangu — a unique fusion of Hausa rhythm, soul, and Afrobeats. Known for hits like Aure and Dangote, Morell’s artistry blends deep cultural roots with modern sound, bridging tradition and innovation through music.
This international recognition marks a huge milestone for Arewa’s music scene and proves that the sound of Northern Nigeria is truly going global.
